All travelers visiting Sri Lanka for tourism or business must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before entering the country. For detailed information and applications, please visit www.eta.gov.lk.
Types of Visit Visas
Travelers can apply for one of the following visa types:
Tourist Visit Visa
Designed for visitors traveling to Sri Lanka for leisure, sightseeing, excursions, or visiting family and friends for a short period.
Business Purpose Visa
Issued to foreign nationals entering Sri Lanka for business activities, meetings, or short-term professional engagements. Group visa applications are also available at www.eta.gov.lk.
How to Apply for a Visa
Before traveling to Sri Lanka, you can obtain a 30-day visa by following these steps:
- Apply online through the Sri Lanka ETA portal (eta.gov.lk).
- Complete the application form and make the necessary payment.
- Check the visa fee details at eta.gov.lk/slvisa/visainfo/fees.
- Once approved, download and print your visa confirmation from eta.gov.lk/etaslvisa/pages/checkStatus.jsp.
- You can track the status of your application online using your reference number.
- Alternatively, visa applications can be submitted at Sri Lankan embassies or consulates in your home country.
- On-Arrival Visas may be available depending on your nationality.
Extending Your Stay
If you wish to stay longer in Sri Lanka, you can extend your 30-day tourist visa twice, each time for an additional 30 days. For further details and application procedures, please contact the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
